Bio

Sophia Porter is a film and digital photographer based in the Northern Virginia area. She was born in Guangzhou, China. When she was six years old, she was adopted from China and moved to Virginia. She graduated from George Mason University with a BA in Photography from the School of Art in 2023. The first time she remembered seeing a camera was when her mentor in China photographed her and the students in her class. She was fascinated by how a device could translate what she saw in real life to a piece of artwork. Language was the first big obstacle in her life, but with photography it was easy, it was a universal language. Some themes she presents in her artwork is the observation of everyday things and everyday life and the human condition.
